Coach Mai Rubin

In high school, Mai debated in Public Forum for Boca Raton Community High School and achieved late outrounds at the Sunvitational as well as winning prelim finishes at Harvard, Emory, and Yale. As a coach, Mai has coached teams to be the first in their programs to ever qualify to the Tournament of Champions, as well as a top 20 finish at NSDA Nationals.

Mai is excited to work with students this summer on topic lectures, casing, researching, and mock debates.

Director Elisa Sukhobok

Coach Elisa founded Potomac Debate Academy to spread the joys of competitive debate to students. Public speaking bolsters students' critical thinking, logical reasoning, and presentation skills, all of which will serve students well in their future pursuits.

In college, Elisa was a member of the New York University Parliamentary Debate Team. She had the honor of representing United States in the World Debate Championships in Antalya, Turkey.

Team Accomplishments

Potomac Debate Academy is one of the nation's top debate programs, reaching elimination rounds in prestigious national circuit tournaments, including being the first and only team in history to appear simultaneously in both the Middle School and High School divisions at the annual Harvard Invitational. Potomac Debate high school and middle school teams consistently rank among the top 50 in the nation, with a record number of teams qualifying for the selective Tournament of Champions, of which less than 2% of debaters will ever quality for.
